kept it simple with next cal event displayed in the center (tap opens calendar). I text a hundred times more than calling so I don’t have an icon for the phone. I use an few home screen gestures to make up for that.

Nova Launcher Prime Gestures:
Double tap = phone
Swipe up = app drawer
Swipe down = notification bar

for some reason Google Play is telling me that Nova Launcher is incompatible with my device, even though it shouldn’t. anyone know why this is? (exhibit II)

@dbnp what android version are you on? Nova Launcher requires Android 4.0 and up. Another good launcher to try would be GO launcher, which only requires Android 2.0 and up.
