this is just the way i do it but there may be other ways out there.
you have to be using a launcher like apex or nova. you set up icons that are actions inside the launcher itself. example: when you tap this specific icon, go to page 3 of the homescreens.
you should also set it up the minimum time between screen changes to be 1 (in apex). that way it opens instantly and theres no page switching animation, it really does a great job of making it seamless.
you also use multipicture live wallpaper to have the wall different on each screen. hopefully that answers your question

Are you referring to the use of “gestures and buttons” (in “setting” Nova/Apex)……through the swipe (up)?

Long press on the home screen – go to apex actions – go down to where it says “Screen 1, Screen 2, etc” – tap on that. That creates a link to that specific screen. Then you would place it wherever you want on the screen to trigger the change when tapped, (example: on the up arrows on my screen) Then you would long press the icon, go to edit, change the icon to a transparent png file, and there you go. Now do that about 20 more times for all the other screens to go back and forth to one another and your good haha.
