I’ve updated this screen from earlier. This is a skin I put together that was inspired by and uses elements of two extremely nice screens I’ve seen here.
The side bar concept is similar to and based on the design Premier-3 by Ezzahratiha.

The bottom bar concept is similar to and based on the design Leaves Android by ThangLD69.

This one is using Apex launcher and both UCCW and Zooper.
The primary difference between this one and the originals is that this one is 100% widgets, either UCCW or Zooper, and does not reply on background PSDs for layout or icons. Thus, this screen can be used with any background without modifying the widgets. I have included screen shots of many different backgrounds to illustrate this.
I’m still a beginner at this, so if you have any comments or advice, please comment. Please ask if you have any questions. Enjoy :)

What widget are you using to the left of the clock with the row of 6 icons? and what calendar is that? I think I’ve got everything else figured out. But if you’d like to list all the widgets, it’d be greatly appreciated. I love your work!

  2. Posted 2013/02/08 at 12:34 am | Permalink

@noonespecial I don’t know if it will notify you unless I post this… sorry for the double post.

  3. Posted 2013/02/08 at 4:25 am | Permalink

@Jeremy. The widget to the left of the clock is Zooper. The entire bottom part is Zooper actually. The calendar is acWidget. The icons are just system icons using the ADW Elegant icon set.

Here is all the UCCW and Zooper files for this skin.

@noonespecial Thanks! I really appreciate it! Keep up the great work!

Step by Step tutorial is forth coming…. as soon as I figure out WHY the sites keeps cutting out every other line of instruction.

  6. Posted 2013/02/08 at 7:13 pm | Permalink

@noonespecial Sweet, because building that bottom row is kicking my butt! I can make them clickable, but can’t seem to figure out the icons =/ I’m a noob still. Thanks for all the help!

  7. Posted 2013/02/09 at 2:41 am | Permalink

@Jeremy I think I understand your problem. Are you trying to add the icons IN Zooper? While this is possible, it’s the hard way to do it. Nova Launcher and Apex Launcher allow you overlay icons on top of widgets. In Nova, all you have to do is drag and drop icons from your App Draw into the empty spaces on the widget. In Apex, you move the widget out of the way, place the icons from the App Drawer in place, then RESIZE the widget into place (Don’t move it, Apex will move the icons out of the way, resize it into place). Hope this helps!

  8. Posted 2013/02/09 at 2:43 am | Permalink

@Jeremy Oh! Don’t forget to go into the enable to the option for overlaying or overlapping widgets. In Nova, it’s in the Homescreen settings, in Apex, it’s in the Advanced settings.

    Love this set up…..
what is the wall paper in the first pic….also the zooper doesn’t sit directly on the bottom no matter what size grid I use….there is a space… below any tips…?

  10. Posted 2013/02/09 at 4:24 am | Permalink

@noonespecial I’m using SS Launcher, it lets me overlay, but I was trying to do it all in Zooper. I’ll keep at it and if it doesn’t come around I’ll move over to Apex. I like using SS mostly because you can scroll vertically and horizontally from the Home screen and I hide stuff “under the dock”. Thanks for being patient with me and answering all my questions!

  11. Posted 2013/02/09 at 5:27 am | Permalink

@Jeremy To add icons IN zooper, you’ll have to create a custom icon set. See here for details:

@John I’ll upload the background to the dropbox linked above. I found it on Zedge. As far as the space on the bottom, make sure the Margins are set to none in the launcher settings, both vertical and horizontal. If that doesn’t work, you might have to do some manual resizing. I created these on a Galaxy Note N7000, so if you are using a different model, the sizing may be a little different.

  12. Posted 2013/02/09 at 5:39 am | Permalink

the uccw widgets are all opening as skin deleted do you have a differnt set…

  13. Posted 2013/02/09 at 5:46 am | Permalink

@John. I uploaded them that way for simplicity. Check the dropbox, I added the editable set in a folder titled “uccw editable”.

  14. Posted 2013/02/10 at 5:56 am | Permalink

@noonespecial Do you have the other steps that are currently missing? This is a gorgeous homescreen by the way!

  15. Posted 2013/02/10 at 6:10 am | Permalink

    @BigJonMoo73 Thanks you!

Here is the complete tutorial. The tutorial in the edit screen keeps deleting steps, I’m not sure why.

    1. Download Apex/Nova, acWidget, Power Toggle, Simple Calendar, and Zooper.
    2. Get the UCCW and Zooper files here:
    3. Apex/Nova Settings: 10×8. Margins None, Icon Size 60%, Hide Shadows, Hide Icon labels, Hide Notification and Dock.
    4. Add Zooper Widget and select package from download. Resize as needed. This will go on the bottom. ***(If you are using Apex, see note at the bottom)***
    5. Add UCCW package “mg-space” and resize. This will go above the Zooper widget.
    6. Add UCCW package “mg-blank” and resize. This will go above the mg-space widget.
    7. Add UCCW package “mg-notifications” and resize. This will go above the “mg-blank” widget.
    8. Add the UCCW package “mg-top” and resize. This will go at the top.
    9. Add acWidget and Power Toggles (x2) and configure to your preference. Add the Simple Calendar widget and configure to your preference. ***(If you are using Apex, See note at bottom)***
    10. There are spaces 7 icons within the Zooper “dock”, add your favorites and enjoy.
    11. Like this and ask questions if you have any :)

    ***Apex Note:
While Apex does allow overlaying widgets/icons, it is only possible with resizing. Follow these steps:
Add the icons BEFORE adding the Zooper widget. Do not drag the zooper widget into place, but put it above the icons. The resize the Zooper widget over the icons.
With the acWidget, Power Toggles, and Simple Calendar widgets: place them beside the UCCW widgets and resize them into place.

Please ask if you have any questions.

@noonespecial I do have a problem with #4 as it does not (Or at least I don’t know how) to select a package from downloading when adding the Zooper Widget. I am using Apex, I understand the dragging of icons and what not, but I have the file in the Zooper folder, but when I go to click on of the preloaded files, it is not there.

  18. Posted 2013/02/10 at 6:44 am | Permalink

I’m not sure Jon. You need to put the Zooper files ( in the Zooper folder. It’s usually at /sdcard/Zooper Widget. I just tested it by remaining the file, downloading it, and placing it in the Zooper Widget folder and it is showing up. Maybe…. do you have Zooper or Zooper Pro? I don’t know if that would cause a problem, but I have Zooper Pro.

  19. Posted 2013/02/11 at 2:21 am | Permalink

You have t have zooper pro to import from SD card. I have zooper pro and I can import it and it shows up in zooper, but when I “load” it the actual widget does not appear on my home screen.

  20. Posted 2013/02/11 at 10:57 am | Permalink

That sounds like a Zooper error. I’ll delete and re-upload the zooper file. I’ve noticed on initial resizing, it won’t scale until you open it and close it. Try that.

  21. Posted 2013/02/13 at 8:12 am | Permalink

Nice screen!! But I keep getting space between the widgets. Nova. I’ve tried everything..
    Any idea?

  22. Posted 2013/02/13 at 8:17 am | Permalink

Make sure you are at grid 10×8 with horizontal and vertical margins set to none. Other than that, this theme was made on a Galaxy Note, so if you have a different model phone, you may have to do some manual resizing.

  23. Posted 2013/02/13 at 6:39 pm | Permalink

I’m new at this whole theme thing. I was wondering how I get the files I downloaded to dropbox to show up and work on my screen? I have UCCW and it is a UCCW file.

  24. Posted 2013/02/13 at 6:44 pm | Permalink

In UCCW, select Open/Import, then Import, then navigate to where you saved the files.

  25. Posted 2013/02/13 at 7:57 pm | Permalink

I am really struggling with this. I have a galaxy note 2 and can not figure out where the file is. Also on my version of UCCW it says open uzip not open/import. Is there any other way I can get this?

  26. Posted 2013/02/13 at 8:17 pm | Permalink

@dahaterhurter Since you are using a Note 2, you will definitely have to do some manual resizing. Not a simple thing for a beginner, but a great learning experience.

Since you will have to do manual resizing, download the uzips from the “editable” folder in the drop box instead of the standard zips. You will be able to import AND edit those. The zips in the root folder are not editable.

Just download the uzips from the editable folder, remember where you download them to, then add open uzip when you add the widget.

  27. Posted 2013/02/13 at 10:28 pm | Permalink

Now dropbox says I need to download a program to use this file.

  28. Posted 2013/02/14 at 9:12 am | Permalink

Hey guys, I’m very new at this but bear with me. I’m trying to put the top right two widgets on. I have them downloaded and looking somewhat proper. Problem is that when I go to place them on the screen, as SOON as I move either one, it shrinks itself. Unbelievably frustrating. Anyone else had this issue?

  29. Posted 2013/02/14 at 9:14 am | Permalink

@jesse16 Hey Jesse. Let me guess, you are using Apex? If I understand what you mean, this is a bug in Apex. Ignore the size by how it looks and just resize according the the resize square. Then restart Apex (Apex Settings, all the way at the bottom). This should clear it up.

  30. Posted 2013/02/14 at 5:35 pm | Permalink

Thank you so much! Just got an android, the customizability is incredible. Seems like apex has some issues.. Would nova be a better choice perhaps?

  31. Posted 2013/02/14 at 8:55 pm | Permalink

@jesse16 I personally prefer Apex over Nova, although I will wholly admit that Nova is more bug free, more featured, and more customizable than Apex and they are, for most intents and purposes, virtually the same. However, I still prefer Apex. Try them both, and other launchers, find which one you prefer.

There are dozens to choose from: Go, Apex, Nova, ssLauncher, TSF, Rabbit, Next, Regina, Nemu, Lightning, Gaya, and countless others. That’s not even including the Windows Phone and iPhone “simulation” launchers that are out there.

A word of advice though when trying a new launcher… even if you hate it within the first few minutes, give it at least a day or two of usage before deciding on it. It takes at least that long to learn it. For example, I hated HATED ssLauncher when I first tried it, but after playing around with it, I think it is one of the better launchers out there. Next Launcher is perhaps my favorite, but on principle alone, I’m won’t spend the $15US to buy the sucker, so I don’t use it.

  32. Posted 2013/02/15 at 2:08 am | Permalink

Wow thanks for the great info! I will have to try a few of them out and see what I fancy.
I seem to be having another sizing issue, though I believe this to be app related. I am trying to place the a widgets calendar app but but can’t seem to size it correctly. It’s b always too big or small compared to the other two widgets (whose size I like). I’ve tried sizing in the app with pixel counts for width, but it doesn’t seem to change. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

  33. Posted 2013/02/15 at 8:20 am | Permalink

Okay, to avoid anyone answering a question needlessly, I have mostly figured out how to get the calendar in the right spot. However, when I try to set the transparency below about fifty, it crashes, constantly. Anyone else had this occur? Running latest jelly bean as of 14feb.

  34. Posted 2013/02/15 at 8:20 am | Permalink

    Using apex as well

  35. Posted 2013/02/15 at 8:26 am | Permalink

@jesse16 Yeah, I’ve had that problem with that calendar widget as well. I’ve been looking for another solution, but for the time being, that seems to be the best one. To fix the crashing, go into Android settings, Apps, find the widget, and click clear data/clear cache.

You’ll notice that the UCCW widget that lies under the calender is a lighter color than the rest to compensate for that bug. Try adjusting the alpha (transparency) of the background of that UCCW to compensate.

In my later versions of this skin (This is version 2, I’ve uploaded v.3 and v.4, currently working on v.5), I’ve abandoned this calendar widget completely because of that bug.

    Version History:
v.2 – This one, the most popular, haha.
    v.3 –
    v.3.1 –

This theme is a work in progress and I’m working to refine and update it. I’m very thankful for the questions you have, as it helps me weed out the bugs and make it a more user friendly theme.

Advice, comments (negative and positive) are always welcome!

I have an HTC Rezound and the bottom zooper widget does not scale correctly; for example the clock is cut off. I have tried to resize the widget, but it doesn’t work at all. Do I need to make the text smaller or what? I am just starting out theming. My screen resolution is 1280 X 720 if that helps at all.

    Thanks :)

    Love that sidebar.
    Happy Belated Birthday!!!

  39. Posted 2013/02/19 at 12:22 pm | Permalink

@maximus20895 The Galaxy Note’s resolution is 1280×800, so you would have to do some manual resizing to have this fit your screen. Meaning, you have to go into the zooper widget and move around the elements in the layout. You may have to change text sizes and other elements to have it fit properly.

@DarthHomer Thanks Darth! I must admit, you gave me a bit of a scare there… I was like “How the hell does he know it’s my birthday!”, then I realized, it’s on the agenda in the screenshot. LOL
