Tutorial

  1. 1. Read the description.
  2. 2. Do what it says.
  3. 3. Done.

Inspired by Alexey Masalov’s iOS7 redesign concept.

M-Flat icons by Mushcube: http://mushcube.deviantart.com/art/M-Flat-393189031

This is one of my favorite screens that I’ve ever made (go away, modesty). I’m not implying anything by this, but the previews seriously don’t do it justice.

It’s a simple 4 page setup, with a custom lock screen made with a minimalistic approach, yet keeping the functionality. (phew, that sentence)

I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do (I’ve never kept a setup for 3 days), here are the files and the tutorial. If you have any trouble setting it up, leave me a comment here, I’ll be glad to help.

Files: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/2uoqhu6el4qx8ad/3o8fg3dtc0?m

1) Download Nova Launcher, Zooper Widget, Media Utilities and WigetLocker (latest versions).
2) Nova settings: Grid size 12 rows by 4 columns; Disable margins, notification bar, shadows. Turn on widget overlapping. Create 4 home screens.
3) Copy the files ending with .zw to sdcard/Zooper Widget/templates. Copy the fonts to sdcard/fonts. Open the Line.wltheme.zip file to install the WidgetLocker theme. Remember the position for the remaining files.
4) Open Media Utilites and enable: Zooper; Make coverart available and Attempt direct control
5) Make many Zooper Widgets on each screen (check the layout.png in the files for size).
6) Tap on each of them. When a dialogue opens, tap on SD card and choose the template you need (again, use the layout.png for instructions)
7) WidgetLocker grid size is 8 rows by 5 columns. Notification bar is disabled. Widget overlapping is enabled.
8) MultiPicture Live Wallpaper settings: 4 screens, reflections disabled, Picture change interval – 1 week (I’m not sure it matters though), Transition type – CrossFade (I found this one looks the best, but you can use whichever you want).

Aaand that’s it! Phew, I’ve never written a description this long. That’s it, hope you guys like it and byee!

awesome! Can you also share the psd of the device frame?

  2. Posted 2013/08/26 at 1:38 pm | Permalink

Very well done. I have a tiny question: When you align dynamic text components in Zooper, how do you go about getting them all, say, left-adjusted to the same level?
If I keep their anchor at the center and move their ox/oy, when the length of the text changes, things get messed up.

  3. Posted 2013/08/26 at 1:45 pm | Permalink

    Beautiful

  4. Posted 2013/08/26 at 1:52 pm | Permalink

    Thanks!

@v15h4l with the text or without?
@Timaeus if you want them aligned left, you choose either Top Left, Center Left or Bottom Left.

  5. Posted 2013/08/26 at 1:53 pm | Permalink

wow how cute is this screen and thanks for the files but I would also Zooper widget UCCW also also work with you :)

  6. Posted 2013/08/26 at 1:55 pm | Permalink

@THENext To be honest, I’ve never used UCCW and wasn’t planning to, especially after the latest update (if I understood correctly what you were trying to say).

  7. Posted 2013/08/26 at 2:34 pm | Permalink

How do i get the weather page ? (A)

  8. Posted 2013/08/26 at 2:47 pm | Permalink

Stunning work…. and i love it how you use zooper instead of uccw i just think zooper is a bit polished a well executed app….

  9. Posted 2013/08/26 at 3:32 pm | Permalink

@Tarun121 Create a Zooper widget and apply the corresponding template.
@Bharath17 Thanks! I agree, I never used nor liked UCCW, I thought it was quite confusing and restricting.

  10. Posted 2013/08/26 at 3:48 pm | Permalink

when I apply the cover for the music i get a folder thing and its says error?

  11. Posted 2013/08/26 at 4:00 pm | Permalink

@deluxe24 You need to have the latest version of Zooper Widget, Media Utilities installed and Zooper, Make cover art available and Attempt direct control enabled in settings.

  12. Posted 2013/08/26 at 4:38 pm | Permalink

@rabrot Nice! and Thanks :) Having trouble getting iconset on ZW. How to go about the Flaticons installation?

  13. Posted 2013/08/26 at 4:42 pm | Permalink

@rabrot hi, i am having the same problem as deluxe24 with the cover art, also how do you resize the icons? When i apply the 12×4 grid it shrinks my app icons down to tiny size. I also cannot select the theme from Nova launcher, i have to individually apply the icons

  14. Posted 2013/08/26 at 4:46 pm | Permalink

The icons aren’t an icon pack, you can’t apply them through Nova. They can only be used as images through Zooper. Add 1 widget (1 row by 4 columns) at the top for the status bar. Add 4 more widgets below it (2 rows by 4 columns) and apply the template. Add 1 widget (1 row by 4 columns) below that for the page indicator and 1 widget (2 rows by 4 columns) at the bottom for the “dock”.

  15. Posted 2013/08/26 at 4:57 pm | Permalink

doing the same .. but ZW is not showing the icons.. only the text is displayed .. where do I need to keep the png files so that ZW widget can pick them .. or how to put an image on the ZW if that is the way out for missing icons in ZW.. Thanks again for your help!

  16. Posted 2013/08/26 at 4:57 pm | Permalink

Ah, I especially love the rich text for multiple-line track name. Well done.

@pun33t I believe that there’s only one row-of-app widget. If you want the page of apps, you need many copies of that widget, with different PNGs that you manually load. The default png resources are packaged into the widget (which include the dock icons: play store, file manager, etc..)

  17. Posted 2013/08/26 at 5:03 pm | Permalink

@pun33t Oh, I see. You can put the icons wherever you like, just remember their position. Tap on the Zooper Widget you want to configure, then tap on Layout > Bitmap > Bitmap (Pick a bitmap from your device gallery). Then navigate to the folder where you placed the icons (the position I told you earlier to remember), select the icon you want and that’s it. Then, tap on Module On Tap and select the corresponding app. Lastly, in the Layout window, look for the text you want to edit. Tap on Text > Edit text manually, then type the name of the app.

  18. Posted 2013/08/26 at 5:17 pm | Permalink

@rabrot I don’t think I see that widgetlocker slider in your package. I’m just using Tiny Slider as a substitute, but people might be confused.

  19. Posted 2013/08/26 at 5:20 pm | Permalink

@Timaeus I’ve updated the folder with it minutes ago, are you sure it’s still not there?

  20. Posted 2013/08/26 at 5:41 pm | Permalink

@rabrot I tried that .. but no luck.. Actually, I am using Zooper widget Pro, V2.24. When I navigate to Layout after selecting the Apps widget from sdcard in ZW, to add bitmap, i tap “+” on top right, it gives only two options.. weather/battery. And no option to select from gallery. Anything I am missing out here ..???

  21. Posted 2013/08/26 at 5:44 pm | Permalink

@pun33t First of all, update Zooper Widget to 2.40. Second, I think you’re adding a bitmap icon set instead of a bitmap, but either way, you shouldn’t be adding anything new, you just need to replace the bitmaps I’ve already created and set up with the ones you want.

  22. Posted 2013/08/26 at 5:54 pm | Permalink

@rabrot…this is beautiful man. Well played.

Only thing tho, the multiple line track title won’t work for me. When I apply it, it just comes up blank, doesn’t show any track information at all.

  32. Posted 2013/08/27 at 12:46 pm | Permalink

    @pleisner3 Thanks
What do you mean by “multiple line track title”? Do you only mean of the song title or the artist and album too?

  33. Posted 2013/08/27 at 2:51 pm | Permalink

How did you make the music information ? When I use the widget, it’s just all bkank

I do. Just downloaded Zooper Pro last night and Media Utilities. How do I have to use Media Utilities with Zooper to get it to show up?

  40. Posted 2013/08/27 at 5:57 pm | Permalink

    @HalfManHalfBiscuit Nema na čemu i hvala. :-)
@pleisner3 open Media Utilities and make sure you have: Zooper; Make coverart available and Attempt direct control enabled.

  41. Posted 2013/08/27 at 7:30 pm | Permalink

Is there a chance you will add to the M-Flat icons library? I would love some nice icons for Flipboard, Twitter, Netflix, and Spotify/ Love it! Thanks!

  42. Posted 2013/08/27 at 7:54 pm | Permalink

how do you apply the zooper template?

  43. Posted 2013/08/27 at 8:49 pm | Permalink

@Garroth Sorry, but the icons aren’t mine. I found them on deviantart and I’m not that good with Photoshop so I wouldn’t know how to make new ones.
@xcarbonz After placing the widget, tap on it and choose SD Card. Then choose the one you want.

  47. Posted 2013/08/28 at 5:45 am | Permalink

@Glarp I had the same problem actually, I think its a bug or something, but the cover art doesn’t how the first time. Try restarting your phone or waiting a bit for the cover art to show.

  48. Posted 2013/08/28 at 6:12 am | Permalink

The title, album and artist name don’t show up..They’re not even there in the widget..I looked for it in layout :/
PS – I have the latest versions of Media utilities and Zooper Widget Pro

  49. Posted 2013/08/28 at 6:17 am | Permalink

@TKash True because they’re a separate widget. I’ve provided 3 widgets for the music page – one for the artwork, one for the info and one for the music controls.

But, i can’t set the widget… I’ve download “Zooper widget free” and place the “.zw” files into -> sdcard0/storage/Zooperwidget/Templates and i can’t set them.

I just see the basic widgets include into the app…

    I’m with a Galaxy S2 phone.

Thank for your help and your job.

Thanks! Now I just have one last question. My problem is that I can’t play music, even though I have followed your steps with media utilities and zooper :/. Cover art also is not showing. Thanks for taking your time!

  56. Posted 2013/08/28 at 8:24 am | Permalink

@ForeverAlone I’m guessing you’re looking at Built-In while making the widget rather than SD card?
@titto What music player are you using?

  57. Posted 2013/08/28 at 8:48 am | Permalink

I’m currently using stock music player. I got a Galaxy S2 with jelly bean. This is how it looks like. http://i42.tinypic.com/2w52437.png

  64. Posted 2013/08/28 at 12:43 pm | Permalink

@titto Have you tried turning the music on?
@itslocfoo Take a look at the layout.png in the files to see how to set it up. As for the controls, open the widget, go into Layout, open Bitmap, scroll down and tap on Bitmap (Pick a bitmap from your device gallery) and then navigate to the icons I have provided you with in the files. Do this for each bitmap. You actually shouldn’t be doing this because I have packed the .zw files with all of the resources, but I guess it’s a bug.
    @Peachanan Thank you!
@Mushcube I am so sorry, I totally forgot! I’m going to edit the description right now. Sorry!
    @jdsingh Read the tutorial.
@Inspired Make sure the files are in sdcard/Zooper Widget/Templates. Create a 4×1 Zooper Widget (or whichever size you want and then resize it), tap on it, tap on Templates and pick the right one.

  65. Posted 2013/08/28 at 1:27 pm | Permalink

@rabrot I figured out the issue. You must have Zooper Widget Checked in Media Utilities. In addition, you need to have Zooper Widget 2.39 or higher. Please inform this to the future users that have issues setting it up. BTW Congrats Screen of the day 8/28/2013

  66. Posted 2013/08/28 at 1:35 pm | Permalink

Now it worked! But only if I use Google Player, not stock. Thanks for taking your time to help people, really nice.

@itslocfoo Thank you, I’m glad you sorted it out. I’ve written everything in the tutorial though, but some people just don’t bother reading.
@titto You can add a custom played by opening Media Utilities, opening Media App and adding a custom one. You’re welcome, glad I could help.

  68. Posted 2013/08/29 at 1:31 am | Permalink

@rabrot : after selecting a desired widget size, i’m not able to find your custom templates other than the stock templates.
I already copied the templates to sdcard/Zooper Widget/Templates folder & using the latest free version (v2.40)

  69. Posted 2013/08/29 at 2:13 am | Permalink

Beauty!!! btw just a stupid question how do you tag a person in your comment?? Sorry i’m new to the site!!!

  70. Posted 2013/08/29 at 3:38 am | Permalink

@mutedf8 you aren’t supposed to be seeing the stock templates in the first place as they’re in “built-in” and not “sdcard”.
    @Adi_Cool Tap on !!Reply!!

  71. Posted 2013/08/29 at 3:42 am | Permalink

    @rabrot installed pro version !! (Y)

note: the only difference is that Free does not allow you to save and load external templates, it-s ad based, and has no “hotspot” functionality.

    Now everything is ok !

  72. Posted 2013/08/29 at 3:43 am | Permalink

@mutedf8 Oh, sweet! Thanks for the note, I didn’t really know the difference between them.

@greyleopard No, its a .zip file called Line. (Line.wltheme.zip I think). Just tap on it and choose to open it using WidgetLocker and then install it.l

@xliv I got an e-mail about your leaving a comment but don’t see it. You only need 1 row for the status bar (check the layout.PNG). resize it, tap on it and go to home. If its still the same size, check the scale. It needs to be 100.

  83. Posted 2013/08/29 at 7:59 pm | Permalink

@rabrot Ya that was weird it says that it was awaiting moderation, I think it’s because I tried linking to imgur. I’ll PM you the link instead but basically the problem is that the widget won’t go the full width of the screen. I’ll try checking the scale.

EDIT: I had the scaling wrong! Looks perfect now. Thanks! Very, very impressive theme btw!

@rabrot Could you tell me how to disable notification bar in NOVA? The items I can find grid size/margins/search bar/shadows and so on, but no notification bar. Please show me.

Couldn’t do it. Dumb i am.

How do I get the controls to work? I’ve added Zooper as a media app and enabled the settings in Media Utilities, and the button changes to a play button when I play music. But when I tap the widget, it still opens Zooper config. Also, the coverart widget has no LP behind it?

  88. Posted 2013/08/31 at 1:02 pm | Permalink

Hey really nice setup, just a quick question though.
On the music widget, for the Play/Pause button, both of the icons (Play icon and Pause icon) show on top of each other, instead of respectively disappearing when I play or pause music. How can I fix that?

Really nice one. Good job man. But i got a little problem with widgetlocker. I tried to add theme but it didn’t work. I moved the file to data/teslacoilwidgetlock/themes but it still didn’t work. I deleted widgetlocker and download it again but theme just didn’t display. How can i fix this?

  90. Posted 2013/08/31 at 7:42 pm | Permalink

Thank you @rabrot for the theme, but please bare with me with my upcoming questions.

i have copied the files of .zw into the place mentioned above

however to copy the fonts I dont have a folder in sdcard/fonts, however i can see a folder called “fonts” in the zooper widget i’ve just installed, do i put the fonts there ?

2- where do the rest of the files go ? or where do I put them on my phone ??

    Thanks, Hopefully you’ll reply soon

@eindbaas open thewidget tconfiguration and go into layout. Scroll down and found the 3 bottom rectangles. They serve as hotspots. Tap on each, go to Module on tap and find the action through Media Utilities. As for the LP, you need to manually relocate the record image – find the bitmap in layout, tap on it, scroll and find Bitmap and locate the image file.
@eCaravanier are you on the latest Zooper version?
@crygamer just find the .zip file in the files, tap on it and choose WidgetLocker as the opening app.
@mizoashrafdiab you can paste the fonts in zooperwidget/fonts but you can also make a folder called “Fonts” in the sdcard folder and paste them there (I think this is better because maybe some other apps use custom fonts and you can use the ones in sdcard/fonts). You only need to copy the rest of the files if something is missing from the template (for example, the play button image). You can put them anywhere you want to, just remember the location.

    Sorry for the bad grammar.

OK now cuz I’m totally lost , I’ve added the fonts and the .zw files
also I have nova launcher,,Zooper Widget, Media Utilities and WigetLocker
Providing that ive finished this step
( 4) Open Media Utilites and enable: Zooper; Make coverart available and Attempt direct control)
But Honestly speaking I dont know how to start if you can provide steps that would be great because I’m totally lost but this theme seems to worth it .. Thank you a lot

  93. Posted 2013/09/01 at 4:55 am | Permalink

@mizoashrafdiab Start by following the tutorial and then tell me where you are stuck.

  94. Posted 2013/09/01 at 5:24 am | Permalink

@rabrot The problem was I had to disable direct control. I never tried that after I added Zooper as a media app.

is there anyway to incorporate a pattern lock to the widgetlocker screen. that is to say i dont want to have to slide to unlock, and then enter a pattern, i want the pattern lock within widgetlocker… possible?

Can’t use Zooper Widget with my Galaxy Nexus. I can’t access the templates that are in the emulated SD card because theres no menu in Zooper widget for selecting templates from my SD card. I can only see the stock templates in zooper widget.

@GreatLachlan You need the pro version.

Just to start off i want to say im am pretty tech savvy and have followed your instruction exactly however when i go to set up the .zw widgets in zooper its only pulling up 4 of the templates and i have tried everything to attempt to get them to show up in app. Am i missing something? Please help im about ready to just give up and i really wanted to apply this theme. thanks for your help

  103. Posted 2013/09/02 at 9:47 am | Permalink

Just brought it, but not all the templates are showing up on the ‘SD card’ tab.

  104. Posted 2013/09/02 at 10:15 am | Permalink

I can’t help you with that, I don’t see why some would show up and some wouldn’t.

  105. Posted 2013/09/02 at 11:06 am | Permalink

Could you please make a video tutorial for this :( I want it so damn bad but i cant apply this .. Maybe it is my stupidness or maybe a lack of knowlegde. Annyway, i would really appreciate it. ^^

@moo0o I can’t, but you can ask someone else. What’s the problem?

  108. Posted 2013/09/02 at 11:17 pm | Permalink

do you download the files as a zip and exract them into the sdcard or do you use dropbox and import them over?

  109. Posted 2013/09/03 at 7:55 am | Permalink

@jdtfoster I think you can do it both ways.

Marco from MyColorScreen posted a video tutorial on their YouTube page (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxbiPWL-AsY) so you can follow it if you have any problems. Thanks Marco!

I loved the icons, you should make one icon pack with more icons!! Really loved the icons! Gratz

@xdrummerxdan thanks, I believe your Zooper Widget app is outdated.
@pedrogelli The icons are made by Mushcube, not myself.

Hi @rabrot, first off, great work! I managed to get everything setup, but I’m finding that my nova launcher is lagging like crazy now and crashes half of the time. I have the Galaxy S4, which has a pretty decent CPU…is there any way to lessen the amount of RAM the Zooper widgets take up?

Also, when I add the cover art widget, I get an error message that says I’m missing some files or something. Not sure what that’s about…has anyone else had a similar issue?

Looks stunning. One question however, where did you find the info wallpaper, the one with the rusty gears?
I know it’s included with the files but I’m trying to find a higher resolution one, but I can’t seem to find the exact one, only similar ones. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  122. Posted 2013/10/16 at 4:03 pm | Permalink

Is it possible that we can get the widgets that we made into icons kept separately instead of it being in one row?….
